The Krauss-Helmholtz truck itself was also inspected for the work needed before it can be re-attached when the frames are re-wheeled.

One problem noticed when the Krauss-Helmholtz truck was removed was that the axle bearing was somewhat open to the elements and had been letting water into the bearing.
This was rectified with some 'delicate' welding of the openings in the casing cover.
