A modification that was done in South Africa was to have a hole cut in the front of the rear drag-box to allow access for a scraper to help empty the ashpan. We'd omitted this in our new drag-box so this was duly cut out during the March working party.

After a rethink about the loco to tender interface and cab, a modified arrangement for the cantilevered cab floor extension was designed. We checked and marked out where that was to attach.
